In the twenty-five years I have been a practicing audiologist, I have participated in and seen the life-changing impact of the care we provide to our patients. As a pediatric audiologist, I am acutely aware of how critical teamwork is to maximize our success. I am concerned that the access and impact of our services is put at risk when the various organizations to which audiologists belong send mixed messages to our legislators and to the public. This dilutes, rather than fortifies, our influence. As your President, I will work to align common objectives between the Academy and our strategic partners by supporting collaborative initiatives that eliminate barriers to our diagnostic and treatment services. In my career as an audiologist, educator, and in volunteer service, I have learned valuable lessons about how to move agendas forward. I sincerely believe that the focus and reputation our Academy enjoys within the health-care community and among policymakers position us to be the leader in this effort. We must provide the example for our future leaders, our students, and young professionals, by strengthening and strategically focusing our resources on a united message.
Thank you for your tireless service to our patients and your investment in our Academy’s future. I look forward to working with you as we advance our profession and advocate with a balanced, aligned, and singular voice for our vocation and our patients.
