How to Raise $1,000 in Nine Days

Letter of Solicitation (PDF)

Fundraising: Each cyclist will be required to raise additional funds for the AAAF.  Approximately 200 miles will be covered in 4 days and so this is a great opportunity to have your friends and family donate a lump sum or pledge on a per mile basis.  See the attached “How to raise $1000 in 9 days” for some fundraising ideas.

Incentives for Fundraising: The top fundraiser will be acknowledged on stage at the AudiologyNOW 2008 opening session.  All riders who raise at least $500 for the AAAF will receive a limited edition AAA 20th Anniversary jersey and will be acknowledged during the AudiologyNOW 2008 opening session and in other related items.

Deadlines for Fundraising: Donations for the AAAF will need to be submitted by March 3, 2008.  All checks from donors should be made out to the American Academy of Audiology Foundation with the riders name and “NC Ride” in the memo field.  Donations should be collected by the rider.  The checks will then be submitted by the rider to the AAAF.

Additional Details

In connection with the AudiologyNOW! 2008 and the 20th Anniversary of the American Academy of Audiology, attending members are invited to participate in a road bicycling tour preceding the convention.  The tour will be fully planned and supported by Carolina Tailwinds (www.carolinatailwinds.com), a bicycle vacation tour operator based in Winston-Salem, NC.  Lodging will be provided, as will most meals.  The tour will offer the opportunity to bicycle the beautiful piedmont area of North Carolina, including the Yadkin River Valley north of Charlotte.

Local cyclists treasure the country roads of the Yadkin River Valley.  Rolling terrain with a backdrop of carefully tended fields of tobacco, corn, and grapes provides a setting that is rewarding and pleasurable. You'll quickly see why this area is one of the best-kept bicycling secrets in North Carolina.  Although North Carolina has long grown the world’s finest tobacco, changing times and legislative pressures have led local farmers to turn to wine grapes as an alternate crop. Grape growing and wine making have grown rapidly, with the latest count showing 350 vineyards and 61 wineries in North Carolina. The grapes cultivated in the Yadkin River Valley are typically European varietals, with chardonnay and cabernet grown as well.  The Yadkin River Valley was named an American Viticultural Area (AVA) in December of 2002, the first AVA in North Carolina.
